Last night was great.  Obama won, McCain showed some of the man he used to be and maybe still is with his concession speech, and the GOP got their comeuppance.  Reading the aftermath today though, we have a long way to go, as many people had something much more important than who their next president is decided for them.

Obama is a great man, but cannot fix the country with a touch of his wand.  The greatest thing he had to offer over McCain was giving us some of our global credibility back, and that more than anything else is why I voted for him.  He inspired me and millions of others.  Let's hope he continues to do so.

BUT...  Not to piss in everyone's Cheerios.. but Arizona, California, and Florida all passed bans on gay marriage.  All of those marriages that have happened in Calfornia in the last 6 months, were renderred null and void by people that were not in them.  Arkansas passed a ban on gays adopting.  With record young and Democrat turnout, these ballot measures still passed.  This is incredulous to me.  What the fuck is wrong with people?

Wow. Let's take away one more chance for kids to get out of orphanages and foster care. Let's also make sure that all those unwanted kids get born!

Really disappointing. Especially California.

As you said though...gaining back some international respect is huge. How many times have you seen people around the world celebrating another country's election?

The world is a better place when it has a country to look up to and be inspired by... how amazing it would be to deserve it again. As the man said, it cannot be made perfect but it can be perfected. Time to prove it.

I seriously doubt the Supreme Court is going to uphold Prop 8.

But massive boos on California for passing it. It's the next front in civil rights.

And I will say that Prop 8 was passed by dirty religious money and very misleading campaigning. It was a sham and a farce, and the no side took its failure for granted. It was as much a fault of shitty campaigning as it was a fundamental flaw in the population.

But, like I said, it will go down, eventually. You can't nullify marriages already granted. The legal challenges have already begun.

I hope you are right.. I do not know how much the campaign was misleading, but it is sad if it was that people can be mislead so easily.

This was Mormon money, all the way. LDS has been planning this for over a decade. They distributed fliers to AA communities stating that Barack Obama supported the Amendment. A flat-out lie. Some people who thought they were voting no voted yes based on the lies and misinformation. It was a total boondoggle.
